Crime of the Week 09/29/2025

The Decatur Police Department is asking for your help in solving this week’s Crime of the Week.

At approximately 01:20 on September 7th, 2025, Decatur Police Officers responded to a Burglary at 251 N 22nd St. Video surveillance at the business showed a large concrete stone being thrown through the front door glass granting two suspects access to the store. The suspects entered the store and stole an unknown amount of merchandise.

The first suspect can be described as a black female, wearing a black sweatshirt, black shorts and blue medical mask.

The second suspect can be described as wearing a black jacket with a fur lined hood, black pants, black mask and armed with what appeared to be a large kitchen knife.

The Decatur Police Department is seeking your assistance in locating Latonian D. Johnson, b/m, 5/11/1975.  An arrest warrant has been issued for Johnson for First Degree Murder and two counts of Attempted Murder.  Crime stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for any tips that directly leads to the apprehension of Latonian D. Johnson, b/m, 5/11/1975 (Pictured below) who is wanted in relation to the stabbing homicide that occurred on 8/20/2025.

 

On August 20, 2025, at approximately 9:47 p.m., the Decatur Police Department responded to a report of an injured person at a residence in the 1900 block of E. Main Street. Upon arrival, officers located three victims suffering from apparent stab wounds. The victims were a 38-year[1]old female and her two children, ages 14 and 16.

 

During a confrontation which escalated into a physical altercation, Johnson produced a knife and began to stab the 38-year old female. Johnson also stabbed the two children as they attempted to help their mother. Johnson then fled the scene in his personal vehicle.  The 38-year old female later died as a result of her injuries.

Crime of the Week 8/18/2025

The Decatur Police Department is asking for your help in solving this week’s Crime of the Week.

On August 3rd at about 7:54 PM, Officers were dispatched to the area of the 1600 block of E Moore St reference Shots Fired.

While in the area of E Cantrell and S 16th St Officers heard the sound of two gunshots to the northeast of their location.  Officers went to the area and observed multiple subjects fleeing the area on foot.

A witness reported seeing a black male walking in the roadway in the 1600 block of E. Moore Street with a handgun. The suspect fired the gun once, then picked up the spent casing. The suspect was described as approximately 5’05” tall, thin build, wearing a black jacket, light blue skinny jeans and a black facial covering.

Video surveillance captured several juveniles in the area, yelling, followed by the sound of a single gunshot before the group fled on foot.

Officers recovered one spent casing and one live round from the roadway at E Moore St and S 17th St.

Crime of the Week 8/11/2025

The Decatur Police Department is asking for your help in solving this week’s Crime of the Week.

On July 26th at about 2:47AM, Officers were dispatched to the area of 1325 N 22nd St reference a Shots Fired call.

Upon arrival witnesses stated an occupant of a red SUV fired an automatic weapon into the air outside the business.  Witnesses stated the suspect fired approximately 5-10 times. Another witness stated after the suspect from the red SUV fired, multiple subjects on the lot of 1325 N 22nd St fired weapons as well causing property damage.  The suspects in the red SUV fled the area SB on Short 22nd St after ramming another occupied vehicle.

Twenty-Eight spent shell casings were recovered at the scene of this incident.
