Crime of the Week 12/17/2025

The Decatur Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in solving this week’s Crime of the Week.

On December 11, 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Decatur Police Officers were dispatched to the intersection of East Hickory Street and North Lowber Street in reference to a shots-fired call. Upon arrival, officers located one live round and sixteen spent shell casings in the 1400 block of North Lowber Street.

Surveillance footage from the area shows a white Toyota Camry traveling southbound on North Lowber Street. The vehicle stopped briefly, at which time automatic gunfire can be heard. The vehicle then continued southbound on North Lowber Street before turning eastbound onto Grand Avenue.

Crime of the Week 12/10/2025

The Decatur Police Department is asking for your help in solving this week’s Crime of the Week.

On 12/04/2025 at approximately 0152 hours Officers responded to 520 S. Main reference a shots fired detail. At 560 S Greenwood Officers located 9 shell casing. Witnesses advised the driver of a black dodge charger or similar style vehicle fire multiple shots out the driver side window and proceeded northbound on S Greenwood. The vehicle continued NB onto N Church St.

Officers reviewed video surveillance of the vehicle turning onto Greenwood from Spring St. Approximately 11 shots can be heard coming from the vehicle before it proceeded north bound. Officers were not able to identify the type of vehicle or the driver from the surveillance footage.

Officers located a possible suspect vehicle at 572 S Church St, however there is no other suspect information at this time.

Crime of the Week 12/02/2025

The Decatur Police Department is asking for your help in solving this week’s Crime of the Week.

On November 19th, Decatur Police Officers responded to an overnight burglary at 1270 North Main Street. Security footage shows four Black male juveniles approaching the business on foot at approximately 3:00 a.m. One suspect, wearing a gray hoodie and dark pants, used what appeared to be a hammer to break a window on the east side of the building. Two additional juveniles—one wearing a black coat, black pants, a black ski mask, and green gloves, and another wearing a black coat, gray pants, black shoes with white soles, and a black ski mask—entered through the broken window.

Once inside, the suspects stole several items of merchandise and caused approximately eight hundred dollars in damage before fleeing southbound on foot. Photos of the suspects can be viewed on the Crime Stoppers website.

Crime of the Week 11/04/2025

The Decatur Police Department is asking for your help in solving this week’s Crime of the Week.

On October 22nd, Decatur Police responded to a burglary at 620 East Garfield. Video shows two suspects wearing masks approaching the school on foot from the north.

One suspect is described as taller with a thin build, wearing dark clothing and white shoes. The second suspect was shorter, dressed in all black with dark shoes.

The taller suspect used a brick to break a window, and the shorter suspect crawled inside, taking a lock box containing cash before both fled on foot.

Crime of the Week 09/29/2025

The Decatur Police Department is asking for your help in solving this week’s Crime of the Week.

At approximately 01:20 on September 7th, 2025, Decatur Police Officers responded to a Burglary at 251 N 22nd St. Video surveillance at the business showed a large concrete stone being thrown through the front door glass granting two suspects access to the store. The suspects entered the store and stole an unknown amount of merchandise.

The first suspect can be described as a black female, wearing a black sweatshirt, black shorts and blue medical mask.

The second suspect can be described as wearing a black jacket with a fur lined hood, black pants, black mask and armed with what appeared to be a large kitchen knife.

Crime of the Week 09/22/2025

The Decatur Police Department is asking for your help in solving this week’s Crime of the Week.

On September 10th, 2025, Decatur Police Officers responded to the 500 block of S Church St in reference to a shooting incident.  Upon arrival Officers located a b/m who had sustained a non- life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg.

A witness stated they heard approximately 6 gunshots and observed a b/m, 17-22 years of age exit a silver 4 door sedan just before the incident.  A dark colored pick-up truck was seen fleeing the scene at the same time as the silver sedan.  Another witness stated 2 other b/m’s were also observed fleeing the scene just after the incident.

Crime of the Week 09/08/2025

The Decatur Police Department is asking for your help in solving this week’s Crime of the Week.

On September 4th, 2025, Decatur Police Officers responded to the area of S Franklin St and E Macon St reference a stabbing incident.  Upon arrival Officers spoke with the 23year old victim.  The victim stated while walking in the area two (2) black males attempted to fight him on the south side of the Law Enforcement Center.

The 23-year-old stated that one of the black males produced a knife from his pocket and stated he was going to kill the 23-year-old. The black male proceeded to stab him one time in the back before both of the black males fled the area westbound on E Macon St.

The victim described the suspect who stabbed him as wearing black and white pants, a black hooded sweatshirt, and wearing a black mask with a white design, approximately five (5) foot ten (10) inches tall, and weighed approximately 180-200 pounds.

The second suspect was a black male also wearing black and white pants, a black hooded sweatshirt, and had a tall natural hair style approximately five (5) foot ten (10) inches tall, and weighed approximately 180-200 pounds.

Wanted Person

CAPTURED!

The Decatur Police Department is seeking your assistance in locating Latonian D. Johnson, b/m, 5/11/1975.  An arrest warrant has been issued for Johnson for First Degree Murder and two counts of Attempted Murder.  Crime stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for any tips that directly leads to the apprehension of Latonian D. Johnson, b/m, 5/11/1975 (Pictured below) who is wanted in relation to the stabbing homicide that occurred on 8/20/2025.

 

On August 20, 2025, at approximately 9:47 p.m., the Decatur Police Department responded to a report of an injured person at a residence in the 1900 block of E. Main Street. Upon arrival, officers located three victims suffering from apparent stab wounds. The victims were a 38-year[1]old female and her two children, ages 14 and 16.

 

During a confrontation which escalated into a physical altercation, Johnson produced a knife and began to stab the 38-year old female. Johnson also stabbed the two children as they attempted to help their mother. Johnson then fled the scene in his personal vehicle.  The 38-year old female later died as a result of her injuries.

Crime of the Week 8/18/2025

The Decatur Police Department is asking for your help in solving this week’s Crime of the Week.

On August 3rd at about 7:54 PM, Officers were dispatched to the area of the 1600 block of E Moore St reference Shots Fired.

While in the area of E Cantrell and S 16th St Officers heard the sound of two gunshots to the northeast of their location.  Officers went to the area and observed multiple subjects fleeing the area on foot.

A witness reported seeing a black male walking in the roadway in the 1600 block of E. Moore Street with a handgun. The suspect fired the gun once, then picked up the spent casing. The suspect was described as approximately 5’05” tall, thin build, wearing a black jacket, light blue skinny jeans and a black facial covering.

Video surveillance captured several juveniles in the area, yelling, followed by the sound of a single gunshot before the group fled on foot.

Officers recovered one spent casing and one live round from the roadway at E Moore St and S 17th St.

Crime of the Week 8/11/2025

The Decatur Police Department is asking for your help in solving this week’s Crime of the Week.

On July 26th at about 2:47AM, Officers were dispatched to the area of 1325 N 22nd St reference a Shots Fired call.

Upon arrival witnesses stated an occupant of a red SUV fired an automatic weapon into the air outside the business.  Witnesses stated the suspect fired approximately 5-10 times. Another witness stated after the suspect from the red SUV fired, multiple subjects on the lot of 1325 N 22nd St fired weapons as well causing property damage.  The suspects in the red SUV fled the area SB on Short 22nd St after ramming another occupied vehicle.

Twenty-Eight spent shell casings were recovered at the scene of this incident.
