Crime of the Week

Crime of the Week 4-22-24

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

In the early morning hours of March 29th, 2024 Decatur Park District Police were notified that an artifact from the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center was missing from the Memorial at Lake Decatur. The artifact was described as a portion of a metal filing cabinet donated from the site of “Ground Zero.”

An investigation ensued, which included review of surveillance imagery from the area. It was determined the artifact appeared to have been removed from the Memorial on the evening of February 15th, 2024.  Surveillance footage showed four suspects who appear to be in their teens, dressed in hooded shirts, around the Memorial site on this date.  (photos below)
